The story follows (Mark Wahlberg), a Boston native who, as a lonely child in 1985, made a Christmas wish for his teddy bear to come to life. Decades later, John is an underachieving adult still living with the now foul-mouthed, pot-smoking, and beer-chugging Ted (voiced by MacFarlane). The conflict arises when John’s girlfriend, Lori (Mila Kunis), demands he grow up and move on from his childhood companion, forcing John to choose between his "Thunder Buddy" and his future.
