The episode takes place after a long hiatus, with Rick Sanchez (voiced by Justin Roiland) struggling to cope with the loss of his portal gun. Morty Smith (also voiced by Justin Roiland) and the rest of the family try to help Rick deal with his grief.

As Rick attempts to rebuild his portal gun, he becomes increasingly obsessed with entering a digital realm known as the "gazorpian plugin," which promises to provide infinite entertainment and escape from reality. However, things quickly take a turn when Rick becomes trapped within the plugin. [S5E1] B.S.O.D.
