A solid episode that plays on the common trope of Americans obsessing over distant heritage. The writers did a great job balancing Steve's earnestness with Stan's pathological need to be impressive. The plot focuses on wanting to learn more about his family’s heritage, leading Stan to invent a fake, gritty history about their "ancestral" home to make them seem tougher. Meanwhile, Klaus gets involved in a subplot involving his own mysterious past.

Just finished watching "The Old Country"! Stan taking Steve’s search for their "roots" and turning it into a complete fabrication was classic Stan Smith.

Steve: "I want to know where I came from!"Stan: Creates an entire fake country and history just to avoid being 'boring'.
