The truth was much more final. The had tracked Swery to Auckland, New Zealand, and hit him with a multi-million-dollar lawsuit. Unlike other pirate icons who fought legal battles for years, Swery didn't put up a fight. He later noted in an AMA, "When someone asks you to stop properly, you stop". Launched in 2010 by Yiftach Swery, YIFY (later rebranded as ) became a phenomenon by mastering one specific thing: high-efficiency compression. At a time when high-definition movies were massive 10GB+ files, YIFY was pumping out 1080p rips that were under 2GB.
